Dark Horse Preview (Week of Jan 18)

This week, the fine folks at Dark Horse gave us another peek behind the curtain at the new books coming out tomorrow. Here are some of our favorites!

CONAN: ROAD OF KINGS #12 – If you like Game of Thrones, fantasy action, or any of the film adaptations of Conan, the final issue of Road of Kings gives you what you know you want in style and leads directly into the upcoming Brian Wood/Becky Cloonan miniseries. I imagine this comic’s paper smelling like a bodybuilder gym. It’s just a great chunk of testosterone in comic form. Side note: the coloring on this book is amazing.

MASS EFFECT: INVASION #4 – I’ve been reading this series since the start, but I’m not a big gamer. So, this continuity-driven series confuses me a little bit. That said, the art is really great and the story (other than references to past events) kept me coming back. This final issue of the Invasion miniseries wraps up the dangling threads of the Invasion of Omega and opens the door for Mass Effect 3.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER, VOL. 1 – THE PROMISE PT. 1 TPB – I recently watched the Avatar cartoon series and this trade paperback is a great continuation of the adventures of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko. I love that the comic turns the happy ending of the series into a new source of conflict and drama for the leads and can’t wait for the further adventures this comic will bring.

You can find these and other fine comics at your local shop or online at Dark Horse Digital.
